Taking part
This page has more information for people who might be interested in joining the PROTECT study.
The hospitals and clinics participating in the study can be found here:
If you have type 2 diabetes and your pregnancy is less than 14 weeks along, speak with your diabetes pregnancy team about whether taking part would be appropriate for you.
Taking part in the study does not require any additional visits to hospital above your normal pregnancy care. If you agree to join the study we will ask you to sign a consent form and we will collect some health information.
For the first 1-2 weeks you would do finger-prick monitoring and wear a ‘masked’ sensor, which means you wouldn’t be able to see the CGM sensor data. This is really important to get your starting glucose levels and check you are ok wearing the sensors. After 1-2 weeks you would be randomly allocated to either finger-prick or CGM for the rest of your pregnancy. If you were allocated to finger-prick monitoring we would ask you to wear the masked CGM sensor at four other times. If you were allocated to CGM then you would wear sensors on your arm, which feed glucose information to your phone.
During the study we would record information about you and your baby's health. This would be stored confidentially and securely. After your baby is born there would be no more study visits.
